Description
Precast concrete Down Channels are used under the outlets of gutter down pipes. Their function is to prevent splashing erosion and furthermore to remove the water some distance away from the foundations. This helps in the case of cohesive (clay) foundation material to prevent local flooding of the sub-strata.
Down channels are open at the front and closed at the back. This design is in order to prevent water from reversing and spilling out against the wall. However, if there is a serious expansive clay problem, rather make use of a comprehensive channel system to lead the water away from the foundations. Have a look at Vanstone’s Standard Open Channels.
Precast concrete down channels are quick and easy to install and consequently more economical.

Tips for Installation:
Always place the down channel first and thereafter the gutter downpipe. Trim the downpipe to the level of the down channel as opposed to the other way around.
Install by preparing the ground and simply placing the down channel in position. Level the ground under the down channel or give it a small slope forward. Make sure the ground underneath is stable by compacting it.
